book-chapter
Loran Kostense is a PhD-candidate at the department of Private Law at the Vrije Universiteit (VU) Amsterdam. Her PhD-research focuses on divorce-related relocation within the Netherlands, and in particular on the consequences of such experiences for the children involved. The empirical-legal research methods that are used are innovative and interdisciplinary, based on her educational background as a psychologist. She conducted a scoping review, a type of systematic literature research that she 'translated' from the social- and medical sciences. In the context of her PhD-research she also conducts a systematic law analysis, a survey study and interview studies to deepen the understanding of relocation cases. She finished her master's degree at the Vrije Universiteit cum laude with the average grade 9. In her master thesis she conducted a research in collaboration with the court of Amsterdam, in which a pilot of piketmediation in divorce cases was evaluated.
